If you're wondering what our secret sauce is, it's all about strategically combining our end-to-end services, like strategy, research, communication, education, and food regulatory support – you could call it our “Chef’s Selection”. As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so why not scroll through the examples of our projects to get a taste of the impactful results from our unique iQ combinations and the variety of clients we've worked with.
You may notice that some of our work carries the Nutrition Research Australia (NRAUS) branding – this was our name until October 2023 when we became FOODiQ Global. We’re still the same great team with the same unique collective iQ. Everything FOODiQ does, and everything NRAUS did, is food-centric, strategy-led, and backed by science.

Combo 2:
Delivering an evidence-based reason for GPs to recommend mushrooms
iQ³ Strategy + Research + Communication + Education
As part of our iQ³ strategy, we identified that vitamin D is a key issue GPs manage and that mushrooms (UV exposed) are a top source and just as effective as supplements. We published a scoping review of the research on the composition and health promoting effects of the humble mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) providing the foundation knowledge to create a suite of educational content to impactfully communicate the evidence-based benefits of vitamin D enhanced mushrooms with GPs.
iQ³ Strategy: Tan your mushrooms, not your skin
We identified that vitamin D is a key issue GPs manage. Current recommendations include sun exposure or supplements. Given high rates of skin cancer, supplements are often the default choice. Poorly understood was that diet can play a role and mushrooms (UV exposed) are a top source and just as effective as supplements. Tan your mushrooms, not your skin became a key strategic campaign focus.
Research: Peer Reviewed Publication
Peer reviewed academic publications form part of the body of evidence around foods. We performed a scoping review of the research on the health promoting effects of mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) providing the foundation knowledge to communicate and educate the evidence-based benefits of vitamin D enhanced mushrooms with GPs.
Communication & Education: Factsheet & Patient Brochure
Creating fact sheets with the key information provided GPs with digestible information to help with evidence-based decision making and developing these into client friendly brochures allows them to seamlessly share with their patients/clients.
Webinars reach a large and broad audience with new information and ongoing professional development – here we highlighted the role that mushrooms can play in boosting vitamin D intake, a fact little known by GPs at the time, despite the high rates of insufficiency in Australia and globally.
Communication & Education: Webinar
We delivered a presentation on Vitamin D for GPs at the GPCE conference in Melbourne, to showcase the potential of diet, and specifically mushrooms, in helping to address vitamin D deficiency. It was called, "Vitamin D Decoded: How can we best address vitamin D deficiency in Australia".
Communication & Education: Conference Presentation
Communication & Education: Medical Journal Articles
We were accepted to publish a sponsored editorial within Medical Journal of Australia (MJA Insights) and AUSDoc medical publications. Being independent researchers and thought leaders, FOODiQ provides invaluable credibility to educational and communication messages.
Outcomes:
By combining the latest science on vitamin D with user-friendly resources and a targeted conference presentation (so popular that we needed to move to a bigger room!) we were able to engage general practitioners to recommend diet as a novel strategy beyond sun and supplementation guidelines, to meeting their patient’s vitamin D needs. All respondents advised that they would recommend our presentation to a colleague, and gave an average rating of 9.0 out of 10.
At the end of the wider project targeted at health professionals, over half of all surveyed perceived mushrooms to be very important to health, compared to only one third who were surveyed at the start of the project.
"Thank you for your presentation. It was practical and relevant- it's the best that I've seen in this conference."
"I was texting my colleagues from inside the presentation room to get them to come watch it, because it was that good!"
“The speaker was engaging and obviously very knowledgeable, but able to simplify what we need to be aware of."

Sharing the benefits of cereal fibres with diverse stakeholders
Research + White Paper + Communication
Peer reviewed academic publications form the basis of the body of knowledge for practice. Publishing this work in an academic journal allows these findings to be incorporated into recommendations and policies, as well as other change-making academic work.
White Paper
Peer Reviewed Publication
Partnering with Deloitte to produce this white paper ensured that information reached the influential stakeholders making decisions related to policy and regulation in this area.
Cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes are some of Australia’s biggest health challenges and among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, reducing not only quality of life, but the country’s productivity. We provided talent and scientific communication support (media release, Q&A document, infographic review) to Kellonova for their campaign about our research.
Communication Support
Outcomes:
We, along with Deloitte's Managing Partner Asia Pacific, Lynne Peluzzo, presented our work on the healthcare and productivity savings from increased intake of grain fibre in Australia to the Minister of Health, David Gillespie at Parliament House.
Combo 4:
Putting melons in the “eat the rainbow” spotlight
Research + Communication + Education
Peer Reviewed Research
Umbrella reviews are essential for informing policy and decision making in practice. They unite data on multiple exposures and outcomes. Here we conducted an umbrella review on how bioactive pigments relate to human health. In doing so, we provided a scientific basis for the much-loved adage that encourages people to “eat the rainbow”.
Podcasts
Podcasts help reach a large and diverse audience in a convenient and digestible format. Here we appeared in two podcasts, with different audience bases to share key messages from the eat the rainbows research, with melons as a practical example.
Patient & Health Professional Brochures
Producing a brochure to summarise the key messages from the umbrella review provides healthcare professionals with palatable and digestible highlights from the research and encourages them to learn more. The production of a client friendly version means that health professionals can share the key findings directly with clients to influence positive behaviour change.
Educational Video
The long-form webinar was paired with a short summary video, a format that is bite-size and sharable.
Webinar
Webinars allow the key findings and details in narrative and relatable form. This webinar combined scientific information with culinary inspiration to put that knowledge into practice.
Outcomes:
Combining world-first research with a colourful variety of digestible resources we put melons on the menu as part of the healthy eating rainbow.
The podcasts have been downloaded over ten thousand times, and the brochures extensively downloaded.
The webinar, viewed by over 450 people delivered impact, with 100% of live participants reporting they learned something new, they found the webinar very good or excellent, exceptionally or very informative and exceptionally or above average for engagement.
